Love grows in me like a tumor
Parasite bent on devouring its host
I'm developing my sense of humor
Till I can laugh at my heart between your teeth
Till I can laugh at my face beneath your feet

Skillet on the stove
It's such a temptation
Maybe I'll be the lucky one that doesn't get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love plows through me like a dozer
I've got more give than a bale of hay
And there's always a big mess left over
With the "What did you do?"
And the "What did you say?"
"What did you do?" and the "What did you say?"

Skillet on the stove
It's such a temptation
Maybe I'll be the special one that doesn't get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love tears me up like a demon
Opens the wounds, then fills them with lead
And I'm having some trouble just breathing
If we weren't such good friends I think that I'd hate you
If we weren't such good friends I'd wish you were dead

Skillet on the stove
It's such a temptation
Maybe I'll be the lucky one that doesn't get burnt
What the fuck was I thinking?

What the fuck was I thinking?
What the fuck was I thinking?

Love is so embarrassing
I'm this awkward and uncomfortable thing
I'm running out of places to hide it
I'm running out of places to hide it
What the fuck was I thinking?

(You know that I've got what you want)
What the fuck was I thinking?
(You know that I've got what you want)
What the fuck was I thinking?
(You know that I've got what you want)
What the fuck was I thinking?
(You know that I've got what you want)

Pelvicthrust has said it best so far, that the persona in the song has become in love with someone despite her knowing that it will not work out. The love she feels is like a 'tumor', something that she normally would never have asked for, wanted, or expected, but arose nonetheless. Knowing that the love is like the parasite, the speaker tries to just accept it - (I'm developing my sense of humor/ till i can laugh at my heart between your feet.)

But, i believe that in this case, the person she falls in love with is her best friend (if we weren't such good friends i think that i'd hate you..). The persona then tries to just take the risk of having a relationship with this man, saying maybe she will be special or 'the lucky one that doesn't get burnt.' She then tries the relationship out, only to find out that it fails just as she expected and gets hurt - just as she had expected. The persona is left wondering - 'what the fuck was i thinking?'

Sometimes you just can't help falling in love.

this song is about being in love with the right person at the wrong time. the right person is your best friend and loving them is this amazingly complicated thing because you know how perfect or near perfect it could be but the feelings are simply not recipricated. Its hard being there everyday having to fuction as if these sentiments are not existant ("i'm running out of places to hide"). And it is this hidding that kills, it is slowly killing you because love become a part of you and you cant hide who you are. i also think there was a relationship there at some point and it was ended or simply went sour for the best friend ("with the "what did you do?" and the "what did you say?").

what the fuck WAS I thinking?? who knows, but I love this song. I'm kinda glad I had that first heartbreak, because now I can really FEEL all these amazing break up songs! I think it's about whatever situation you've been in and can relate to it. That's the best thing about music, every person takes something different from it....:)

i think it's about becoming jaded. everyone thinks they're the exception to the rule of love. nobody expects to get hurt. this song is in retrospect- she has been hurt and totally didn't expect it. now she's questioning how she could be so stupid as to think she was too smart to get hurt.

the love snuck up on her. she became attached and in love, and, as it always does, it bit her in the ass.

Lovelovelove. I love this song, as well as Voice On Tape, which isn't on here yet.

    i love this song.

what i got out of it is that she's in love with someone and she's trying to tell herself that it will work out. when in reality its not going to happen and he's not worth it. so she's asking herself "what the fuck was i thinking?," meaning why did she ever fall for him and why did she ever think things could work out.

when she says "love grows in me like a tumor / love plows through me like a dozer / love tears me up like a demon" shes saying she doesnt want to be in love because she knows he wont return the feelings. but in the back of her mind shes hoping. "you know that i've got what you want"

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
