And I, I wanted to tear down the curtains
To let, let in some natural light
I wake up and open one eye
And wait for the window to crack at me, alone

And I, I wanted to curl up beside you
And die, at least for an hour or more
Depending on how you react
Depending on how you respond to me
I'll stick around

We're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what do you want from me
'Cause as long as there's a payphone and a taxi cab I'm alright 'cause I can leave home
We're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what are you waiting for
'Cause even with a fast car and a cellphone I won't leave 'cause I'd be alone

So tonight, let's be as bold as we want to
And drink, drink 'til we fall down the steps
Remember how that made us laugh
Remember how all that we did was laugh, and cry

Well, we're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what do you want from me
'Cause as long as there's a payphone and a taxi cab I'm alright 'cause I can leave home
We're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what are you waiting for
'Cause even on a boat a train or a jet plane I won't leave 'cause I'd be alone
And I'm lucky to find cardboard in an alleyway that I can call home

So tonight, let's be as bold as we want to run, four eyes ohhh
We're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what do you want from me
'Cause as long as there's a payphone and a taxi cab I'm alright 'cause I can leave home
We're kidding ourselves kidding ourselves
So what are you waiting for
'Cause even on a boat a train or a jet plane I won't leave 'cause I'd be alone
I'm lucky to find cardboard in an alleyway that I can call home
So don't take your eyes off me, don't look away
I won't be alone
At home

Having listened to this song probably about 500 times in the last 24 hours, I'm here to talk about it.

The overall mood of this song is the singer in crisis about a relationship, that may or may not have just gone through a recent break up. As you can see, he repeats past tense words as well as present tense, making my point more true.

The first stanza: He talks about how he wanted to show all the flaws in the relationship, only he didn't(for some unknown reason). This could have been that he was in fear that it would ruin the relationship failing, or a number of other ones.

The second stanza: He talks more about what he wanted to do in the relationship. He wanted to curl up beside them, and die, to see how they react. If they reacted in horror, like he knew they would, he would stay with them. This stanza is mainly highlighting some what of a day dream he had, where he and his girl would be happy at last.

The Chorus: He talks about how their kidding themselves. This is refering to how the issue that they're having and won't lead to any permanent damage in the relationship. He believes that over time, it will fix, and they'll be happy. He's just waiting patiently as the other person figures out they're doing. This also states how he would never leave the person, because he would never want to be alone.

Fourth stanza: In this section he speaks of how they will be acting that night. Lets go back to the old times, remember why we're together, and be happy again.

Chorus again: The same as the first time, only an added line. He's "lucky to find cardboard in an alley way" that he can call home. This is saying that he's not very lucky with finiding a person to live with and love. This implies that he is indeed desperate, and suggests that this song might be a desperate cry of hope, which will in the end fail.

The chorus repeats, and it's over. This ends with him requesting that the girl keeps her eyes on him, so that some day they will be back together again. Even though he can, he would never leave the girl, and he wishes with all of his heart that she will stay with him and pay attention, so they will work it out.

I hope I hit the nail on the head, it'd be good. Thanks for reading! =)

I think of this song a little differently than the last post, It reminds me more of someone whose infatuated with someone else but neither of them think they should be together, hence the kidding ourselves. Except when they are together they are the only two people in the world, and nothing else matters, that's why he doesnt want to leave her, because when he's with her she's home to him.

i think it's different...i guess everyone has their own interpretations...thats what i love about music haha. buut this is how i see it...

I think the guy knows the relationship isn't working but he's so afraid of being alone that he doesn't want to end it. I think he kind of wants her to break it off with him just so that he won't have to maybe. "We're kidding ourselves. So what are you waiting for? 'Cause even with a fast car and a cellphone I won't leave 'cause I'd be alone" I think the relationship has too many extremes. It goes from amazing to horrible. All they did was laugh and cry. Depending on how she reacts when he lays beside her he'll hang around for a while...he says as long as theres a payphone and a taxi cab im alright cuz i can leave home. So when it gets really bad he can just leave...but at the same time, he doesn';t want to because hes scared of being alone.

you knowwat...i cant explain things haha...but it makes sense in my head.

    i agree with everyone above.

but this song really hits home for me for some reason.

i personally think the singer is talking about showing someone that they are both feeling the same way about eachother. the 2 have probubly stopped hanging around with eachother like they used to, after finding out that they are starting to fall in love. and now, the singer relizes that their kidding themselves thinking that they can only be friends or even be even less then friends because the feelings between them are strong. and then, when he refers to being lucky to find cardboard in an alleyway that I can call home, its because he dosent feel like he has anywhere he belongs ever since they stopped being who they actually were.

and then he says tht he wont be alone at home, meaning tht the only place he is truely home is with her, and tht she cant turn her back on him, because they are truely in love. and they have to stop kidding themselves

i hope tht does the song justice.

I completely and totally agree with ashii.

This song strikes me as two friends who feel more than just friendship, but are scared to go there. Maybe they're scared of what will happen but honestly they love eachother and there's no more point in hiding it. "Let's be as bold as we want to"

I think it's about someone going through troubles with their relationship. And that it all seems really fake. Kind of feeling like the person is rejecting them, or not appreciating them. And that the person feeling this way doesn't want to be alone even if it means getting treated bad. The person thinks that they are "kidding themselves" by staying in the relationship, basically saying that they're just wasting their time with it and that it's not going anywhere. But they won't break up cause the other preson just doesn't see the problem, and the the person who feels unappreciated, doesn't want to break up with the person because they don't want to be alone.

I think that this song is about a guy who isn't sure of how the relationship is going, He is afraid to be alone but is unsure of his feelings for the person. He feels that there are constraints in this relationship and the he truly cares but thinks that the things that are being said arent true. it worries him that the other person in this relationship isn't being honest.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
