Bear paws and rascal power
Watching us in your garage
Big girl you ate the neighbor
The nova is over
Wake up and play
Balleradio
Make room for Clara's bare feet
The love of a Martian

Tick tock and waiting for the meteor
This clock is opening another door

Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know how to say
Losin' what I love today
These are the best that I
Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know what to say
Look at what I lost today
And these are the things that I

Blood flowers in the kitchen
Signing off and winding down
This Martian ends her mission
The nova is over
She caught the ball
By the mission bell
Chase lizards bark at donkeys
The love of a martian

Let's bow our heads
And let the trumpets blow
Our girl is gone
God bless her little soul

Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know how to say
Losin' what I love today
These are the best that I
Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know what to say
Look at what I lost today
And these are the things that I

She's got sword in case
Though this is not her lord in case
The one who can't afford to face
Her image is restored to grace

Disappeared
No trace
Musky tears
Suitcase

The down turn brave
Little burncub bearcareless turnip snare
Rampages pitch color pages
Down and out but not in Vegas
Disembarks and disengages
No loft

Sweet pink canary cages plummet pop dewskin fortitude
For the sniffing black noses that snort and allude
To the dangling trinkets that mimic the dirt cough go drink it's
It's for you

Blue battered naval town slip kisses delivered by duck
Muscles and bottlenosed grifters arrive in time to catch the late show
It's a beehive barrel race
A shehive stare and chase wasted feature who tried and failed to reach her
Embossed beneath a box in the closet that's lost
The kind that you find when you mind your own business
Shiv sister to the quickness before it blisters into the new morning milk blanket
Your ilk is funny to the turnstyle touch bunny who's bouquet set a course for bloom without decay
Get you broom and sweep the echoes of yesternights fallen freckles, away

--Tick tock and waiting for the meteor = waiting for the death of Martian --This clock is opening another door = the end of Martian's time is opening another door (heaven?)

--Lots of love just keep it comin' = unconditional dog love --Making something out of nothin' = making something out of dog's death --These are the best that I = these are the best memories i have --I don't know how to say = I dont know how to describe the memories --Losin' what I love today = losing Martian

--Blood flowers in the kitchen = paw prints of blood (Martian's possibly) on kitchen floor? --Signing off and winding down = Martian is dying --The Martian ends her mission = end of Martian's life --The nova is over = the best times are over --She caught the ball = Martian caught life/goals --By the mission bell = Before he died --Chase lizards bark at donkeys = Martian chased animals

--Disappeared. No trace. = Gone forever w/o a trace --Musky tears. = tears of people who loved/knew Martian --Suitcase. = People that traveled to see him in the end --down and out but not in Vegas. Disembarks and disengages. No loft. = He's gone and off on a new journey w/ no energy to "loft" or hang on (in the air) -- Sweet pink canary cages plummet pop dewskin fortitude for the sniffing black noses that snort and allude to dangling trinkets that mimic the dirt cough go drink its. It's for you. = The people cry and sniffle as the dew is fresh on the ground. its all for Martian --Blue battered naval town slip kisses delivered by duck muscles and bottlenosed grifters arrive in time to catch the late show. = bottlenosed grifters are paparazzi who came to the funeral to see the band members? --Embossed beneath a box in the closet that's lost. The kind that you find when you mind your own mysteries. = The place after that is hidden from view that you find when you aren't looking for it (when you die) --Your ilk is funny to the turnstyle = your breed is different from the way of life that spins contiuously. --touch bunny who's bouquet set a course for bloom without decay. = Martian chased a bunny and caught it. the bunny had set a course to live and grow without dying. --Get you broom and sweep the echoes of yesternights fallen freckles....away... = Sweep away your sadness and tears

Anthony's dog, Buster, who helped him get out of his drug addiction, also died while they were working on this song.

The 'outro' is insanely incoherent, but I think it somehow relates to the incoherency-of-thought you sometimes go through when someone or something (in this case, Flea's dog, Martian) passes. Everything becomes jumbled up and muddled.

Listen people... it does Not matter what You think of this song.... It matters what We think of this song, colletively. In my opinion, that is where meaning of a work of ANY art originates. This song speaks, to me, about the death of a close one: Be that close one a dog, a significant other or someone meaningless... death affects us all. it reminds us of our mortality.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
