The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
i don't know why these tracks seem to get people so riled up... Tool's been doing these kinds of tracks since Aenima...
i never heard people say things like 'what the fuck, this is bullshit, etc...' to tracks like Ions or Mantra...
if you want my opinion, i believe egb and trexor are both associated if not members of tool fucking with all of us.
eh?
I think Maynard, Adam, Danny, and Justin have better things to do working on Tool and other groups and projects than to go around fucking with their fans on songmeanings. Don't get me wrong, they LOVE to fuck with their fans every chance they get, but I doubt they are egg or Trexor. However, while the "current" Tool has better things to do, Paul D'Amour might have time to fuck with people...<br /> He might even be the one responsible for the mysterious Latin lyrics for "Viginti Tres". Who knows? ;)
these lyrics are so wrong
What da fuck HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Black kettle was like the bin laden of his time. He faught against the society we currently enjoy. His point of view was that of harmony, not greed. It may be some kind of curse but I doubt it. Gives me a comforting feeling. Like getting in touch with nature.
Ha, I enjoy your sense of humor.
Why is this on the album? Someone is a genius if you know the meaning behind this
@FireWorx Listen to Lipan, Lost Keys, and Rosetta Stoned all together. It's a story. It's a reference to tribes that use ayahuasca. Then Lost Keys is after either during, or after the trip, and then Rosetta Stoned is recalling the trip. They do a pretty good job of telling a story.
It's because Tool enjoys putting random stuff on their album (Harry Manback, Die Eir Von Satan, (-) Ions, Faaip de Oiad) I think it's something they enjoy musically but at the same time like their own style of comedy.
This song was described in a review I saw as "Mantra with spoons". Does it credit I think.
