Reflecting Light

Not having seen the Gilmore Girls, I had a totally different take on the song when a friend shared it with me. I found it to have a spiritual meaning -- since the main reason we're here is to wake up and see the insanity of our own thoughts, I found "now that I've worn out the world I'm on my knees in fascination" to mean the point that we all eventually get to (hopefully) when we are so tired of trying to manipulate our life situations and relationships that we drop to our knees and just let go. It's at this point when we are in a humble yet trusting state that we begin to reflect light. The 2nd verse represents the mental suffering we go through the brings us to our knees and the darkness that we experience - the dark night of the soul. The final verse beautifully outlines the steps we need to take to become a vehicle to reflect light, help others heal, and change the world.

Thanks for posting this song! It's yet another Sam Phillips song featured on Gilmore Girls, and probably this (and Love is Everywhere I Go) are the only two Sam Phillips songs featured on the show with lyrics. This is yet another love song, performed during a wedding, and has a waltz tempo.

It's soft and acoustic, and very pretty in that way. Sam Phillips has very simple lyrics written out in what seems to be poetry (repeating verses) rather than the typical Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-every other line must rhyme pattern that main streamed artists stick to.

I'm not sure exactly what the lyrics here mean, although the song's feel seems to indicate that the speaker feels like life has brightened up. Her head's in the clouds. She's in love, and it feels nice. She's so happy she's glowing- "Reflecting Light"

Although the actual lyrics probably mean something else...it's too complicated to decifer. Any thoughts?

My take on the lyrics is sort of like yours -- here is this cynical person who's seen and been through it all, and they're redeemed or saved by love. Does that make sense? I'm never any good at explaining things...

this song is amazing, and so is the cd its on. sam does her usual wonderful job on the lyrics. i love it

oh this song gives me the warm fuzzies everytime i hear it! sam phillip's voice gets me every time and the lyrics are gorgeous, but each time it's on i think of luke and lorelai's first dance, just too damn cute. boy do i miss that show. :(

ahh i just always think of the song as based on Luke from gilmore girls. the whole cynical thing, now in love. damn perfect for that scene!

Her song 'where the colors don't go' was also on gilmore girls. it played in that first episode when lorelai went to her parents :]

There are some painfully over=the=top portions in the Gilmore Girls redux, But the wedding make over with this song playing is perfect. I said who is the singer with that unique voice. When google presented me with the lyrics of Sam Phillips' song I was so grateful to rediscover that amazing voice. Think I'll play my "Bikinis and Martinis CD and catch up with her music.
