@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

When Kevin says "The creator of what’s now cliché had some funny words to say "all you little things are incomplete"" i think he is refering to how in christianity god makes humans feel small by denying them the feeling of worth.

the title of the song makes me thing it is about the judeo-christian sort of gad who created us with immortal souls and then repudiated us, or sort of disowned us (on account of being incomplete) and why would he say that about us if he made us? clearly he wants us to cry and feel loneliness, and the part about not cryin gnot for lack of care, cause its hard for us to feel bad about our sins when we cant seem to recall what perfection was like (when we were in heaven, up there, so to speak, before being sent down here). the part about whatxs now cliche would jsut refer to how he created earth and its pretty magnificent and all but we are over it, now we're more bent on trying to fix its problems then being in awe of it.
then he goes on about how one can stil find beauty in life inspite of its bad cause i guess thats about all one can do, . but life is frustrating when you like listening to the snow but you never get used to the cold. its a constant struggle, which is tiring when you know you will never die (I can only speculate that "what has happened here to you and me" is the "fall of man" or soemthing like that, idk. just some thoughts.
This song helped me come to grips with letting to of christianity. I felt as if God had abandoned me, but I remembered that life is about beauty and love, neither of which the christian God can offer. I love that...the creator of what's now cliche...I think about that a lot. I still believe in a God, and I think of how incredibly awe inspiring creation must have been, even if it was evolution, setting everything in to place and letting it go...and then I think of the first chapter of genesis: "In the first day God created heaven and earth...' that does not even begin to do justice to God.
Ever since listening to the Morning Becomes Eclectic performance and hearing what this song is about, I like it a whole lot. I like how even though it's this post-apocalyptic sort of story, it's kind of sweet. "I'll take care of you if you take care of me." Even though they've been rejected by God and doomed to a violent world, they've still got each other, and they're satisfied. I just think it's romantic, in a weird way.
The first verse if from an angel and the second from his mortal friend. just what i think
It reminds me of Milton's Paradise Lost for some reason. I was thinking it was almost like a conversation between Adam and Eve after the fall, with some interjections by Satan. I have no idea. That was just my first impression. It's the end of the semester, so I guess everything is reminding me of Milton.
At any rate, I like this song a lot.
Being that it's after October is Eternal, I like to think that October is Eternal is the apocalypse, and then this song plays, and the last surviving people, that is, the eternals come forward and talk about their abandonment. This song makes me think a lot about the end of the world and dying, but it's still one of my all time favorites by of Montreal.
When I first heard this song, I had no idea what it meant so I just listened to it over and over again and what it means to me is that the "creator of what's now cliché" is the devil, because evil is becoming cliché and he is saying that "all you little things are incomplete" because he is addressing children, and the child doesn't know why the devil would say this so he asks "Why did he speak of us that way?" The line, "It's very hard to feel the way we used to feel up there" is because its hard to feel the happyness of a child when you're in hell. And of course the devil wants everyone to cry and feel alone. There's no escaping hell and you can't die if you are in hell. Thats just what I get out of this song, kinda depressing, but one of the greatest bass lines of all time.
