Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, enfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me

Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, enfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, enfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me

for me, this song seemed to be about winding up at a point in your life where you just feel so broken. when you're so depressed that you feel like you are about to reach you're breaking point. when you don't feel like yourself anymore and you cant really even remember what you were like to begin with. when you continuously hurt yourself in some way no matter how much you try to stop and there's no one who can take the blame for how your life is now. when you feel like everything is your fault. when you actually become afraid of yourself. when you need someone to keep you going, to give you a reason to live, so you're begging this person to just be there, to be a friend to you so you can feel like you're worth something again, like you're actually needed in this world.

This song is breathtakingly beautiful. I'm currently addicted to it. I've no idea how the kind of pain she's expressing feels, but I almost feel like I do when I hear the song. For me, this song is about feeling worthless and vulnerable, really needing help but not knowing how to ask for it. My favourite line is also the title: Breathe me. I think that this line could have any number of meanings, but these are my favourites:

    1. She wants someone to understand how she feels. To walk in her shoes and feel her pain so she knows she's not alone (see Akiata's comment)

    or

    1. I think she's grown so tired, and she's hurting so much, that it hurts to breathe. She's too tired and wants someone to 'breathe for her', to support her. She doesn't want to have to control anything anymore, she just wants to be alive, but she's too tired to do anything else.

My personal favorite. I love this song. It's about being alone and needing someone. Such a vulnerable song, and the way Sia sings it... beautiful.

This I kind of consider my theme song... I relate all too well to it and love it more then any other song out there. Its about self destruction... having something good and consistantly screwing it up eventually cause you subconciously just don't consider yourself worthy of having anything good in your life. Its also about the longing after you've screwed things up to want someone there to help you pick up the pieces and tell you its all gonna be okay. You put on this falsefront that you are strong and you can handle the situation but really you just want someone to break down the walls and really see exactly how fragile you are and how much you do in fact need their help after you've made a mistake.

This was a breakup song for me. Perfectly sums up the newfound vulnerability and trauma of breakup-ness.

Something I could listen to forever over and over again. Everything is perfect, especially her vocals. I'd highly recommend the rest of the album too - it's all this breathtaking.

Koprolith: describing the meaning of the line "breathe me" is quite difficult! My personal feeling is that she feels very alone, and she's begging for somebody to understand what she's going through. I think by "breathe me" she means "live in my world", "breathe the air I breathe", "walk in my shoes". Live and breathe me and understand me inside and out. It sounds cumbersome and ungainly when I put it like that - I suppose that's because the lyrics are so good!

    I hope that helps.

clearly the meaning of the song is something personal to sia..

but i relate to this song with the feeling of loneliness. of needing someone. someone that makes you feel safe.

and "breathe me"...is the request that the other person needs you back. (breathing is essential to life...just like we need oxygen to survive, you want the person to need you in their life.)

but thats just my personal opinion and i really think everyone can relate to the song with a different meaning behind it.

...also, one of the most beautiful songs ever created ♥

    My Interpretation

It's written in a way that lots of people with different experiences can relate, but to me it screams cutting. The initial "Help" is like the panic that leads the initial need to cut, and thats why its followed by "ouch" in the next stanza. Ouch because of the stinging pain physically and emotionally that follows after she cut herself. And when she says "wrap me up" she's bleeding and so she need to be wrapped up - bandaged, physically for wounds and internally for her emotional suffering.

you can hear the desperation in her voice. i think that's what makes the song so emotional for me. i cried the first time i heard it. her voice cracks and it's just so fucking REAL. i love it.

as far as the lyrics go. she's saying she fucked up and she feels worthless. she is desperate for someone to help her overcome whatever made her feel this way.

Help, I have done it again (cutting) I have been here many times before (saying it isnt the first time) Hurt myself again today (backs up the meaning of the first two lines) And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame (she cant balme anyone else but herself for this)

Be my friend Hold me, wrap me up Unfold me I am small I'm needy Warm me up And breathe me ( she doesnt really feel like she has anyone to love, and she doesnt love herself.... so she wants someone to love her and hold her and make her feel safe and happy)

Ouch I have lost myself again (she did it again and she doesnt know why) Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found, ( the more she cuts away, the more she loses herself) Yeah I think that I might break ( she cant do this anymore) I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe (she wants someone to make her feel safe)

**This is practically me. and this song explains me so well is almost scary.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
