I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. Missy Higgins is really talented, even if you dont like her voice (which i do) just look at her lyrics, shes amazing.
Everything about her is great - her music, her writing, her voice. She sounds so real, so saturated, so much older than her 21 years. I love her for her honesty. And she's just such a cute little button as well!
Missy is awesome. Missy has a great voice. Her voice is a part of how awesome she is. The accent for me is a sign of her being comfortable with her music. She is able to make her music "feel like home" and she is also an amazing songwriter. Awesome live - World Vision Tsunami Appeal Concert (tops)

I lvve the fact that Missy's an Aussie, we need more artists. She's an awesome singer and songwriter. She's so incredibly honest in all her music. This song is about having hurt the one person in the world that you can't live without, and wanting everything to go back to how it was. This is my favourite song on the album too:)
This is a beautiful song about loosing the trust of a loved one and describing all the dreams and emotions involved with this one person. It presents the mistake being made and how she feels strong remorse and regrets wat she did "I know I’m not deserving of your trust from you right now, but if by chance you change your mind you know I will not let you down ‘cause we were the special two, and will be again." It also describes how when two people are together that were made for each other feel and how nothing should get between them and just no one else will do

This part also - she doesn't deserve his trust. I really like this song a lot. For a while though, I couldn't listen to it. It was playing on the radio shortly after my boyfriend broke up with me because I cheated on him and he found out.. I cried so much and then I couldn't listen to it anymore.
I actually really like her accent too. A lot of people think it's way too yob.. but I think she's great.
