This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Still
I think of you, baby
And how I grew old with you then
And this summer
You'll call, maybe
And act as if we were old friends
You'd say, "How are you, baby?"
I'd say, "It's raining in Athens"
And to this day
I nurse the fever
That spoiled my poor heart
And I've mastered the art of dealing
Slipping away without falling apart
So when, this summer
You call, maybe
And ask how I've been
I can be honest and answer plainly:
"Since November, it's been raining"
I think of you, baby
And how I grew old with you then
And this summer
You'll call, maybe
And act as if we were old friends
You'd say, "How are you, baby?"
I'd say, "It's raining in Athens"
And to this day
I nurse the fever
That spoiled my poor heart
And I've mastered the art of dealing
Slipping away without falling apart
So when, this summer
You call, maybe
And ask how I've been
I can be honest and answer plainly:
"Since November, it's been raining"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
this songs is so depressing and sad... hauntingly beautiful though like many of Azure Ray's songs. Beautiful imagery.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded....just the very first few bars quite literally send shivers down my spine, it's one of those songs that just washes over you and....god it's amazing. It's always reminded me of an old boyfriend, pretty much because it sums it up perfectly, even to the fact that we ended in a November and for the next year or so it was like it was constantly raining. Ahh what an amazing song.
This song turns me into a wreck, every single time. I agree with armageddon, total shivers.
this is the prettiest azure ray song............i fucking hate it:(((((((
one of my all time favorites..and that says alot. pure poetry, no explaining, just brilliant words
whats the significance of Athens?
I believe Maria Taylor or someone in the band grew up near or in Athens, some maybe they just used the name. I don't really know the significance though.
athens, georgia referenced in many of azure ray's songs, as well as in "southern state" by conor oberst, who iirc had/has a relationship with maria taylor
athens is where maria and orenda moved after they got a record contract. maria still lives there...
