I want your silent parts
The parts that the birds love
I know there's such a place
I had my back turned
You didn't realize I'm lonely
You lack the things
To which I relate
But I see no harm
Come away, come away, come away
It's over
And one, two, three

When I'm feeling lazy it's probably because
I'm saving all my energy to pick up
When you move into my airspace
Move into my airspace
Something's coming over me
I see you in the doorway
I cannot control the part of me that swells up
When you move into my airspace
Move into my airspace

But each night
I bury my love around you
Oh each night
I bury my love around you
You're linked to my innocence

This is a concept
This is a bracelet
This isn't no intervention
This is a concept
This is a bracelet
This isn't no intervention
This isn't you yet
What you thought was such a conquest
Your hair is so pretty and red
Baby, baby you're really the best

Can I get to this way? I think so
Can I get to this way ?I think so
Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way?
Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way?

We should take a trip now to see new places
I'm sick of this town and I've seen my faces change
We should take a trip to see new places
I'm sick of this town I've seen my faces change

Say hello, say hello to the angels
Say hello, say hello to the angels

It seems to me that he was in a break up, but wants the person back, because there's nobody better.

"I want your silent parts the parts that the birds love" means that he was attracted to her physically, rather than emotionally at first.

"I know theres such a place I had my back turned, you didnt realize Im lonely" He knows what love feels like, but he didnt realize how good he had it, and now he's lonely without her.

"You lack the things to which I relate But I see no harm.Come way, come way, come way Its over. And 1, 2, 3" Means that they didnt connect well at first, just pure physical attraction, but it still worked. And then, suddenly she ended it.

"When Im feeling lazy, it's probably because Im saving all my energy to pick up when you Move into my airspace Move into my airspace" means that when his lover walks into the room, he gets a burst of energy from them, like butterflies.

"Somethings coming over me I see you in the doorway I cannot control the part of me that swells up when you Move into my airspace Move into my airspace" means that he can't control how he feels for her, he gets the butterflies as he/she moves into the room.

"But each night, I bury my love around you Oh each night, I bury my love around you You're linked to my innocence" He still thinks about her every night, and is his first true love, the one he will never get over.

"This is a concept This is a bracelet This isnt no intervention This is a concept This is a bracelet This isnt no intervention" Means that he doesnt want to mess up the relationship/way of life his lover's in right no, but he wants to tell her how he feels.

"This isn't you yet What you thought was such a conquest Your hair is so pretty and red Baby, baby, you're really the best" She hasnt told him how she feels, but he's in love with her-in beauty&more. And theres nobody that competes.

"We should take a trip now to see new places I'm sick of this town and I've seen my faces change We should take a trip to see new places I'm sick of this town, I've seen my faces change (each night I bury my love around you)" He wants to start over, he's sick of all the other small relationships he's tried out after her. He's still in love with her.

"Say hello, say hello to the angels Say hello, say hello to the angels" The future: him starting over with her.

Atleast this is what this song means to me...

    My Interpretation

This song is not about sex, hornballs. It's really quite sweet and romantic. Here we go:

I want your silent parts the parts that the birds love (He wants inside her head. Where we go off in the clouds. He literally means birds...not dirty birds.)

I know there's such a place I had my back turned, you didn't realize I'm lonely (He's glimpsed/heard her psyche, while his attention was on a stale relationship. He was listening and she didn't know he was lonely.)

You lack the things to which I relate But I see no harm. (They're different, but she interests him.)

Come away, come away, come away It's over. And 1, 2, 3 (He wants her to go with him because his relationship is over. He wants her.)

When I'm feeling lazy, it's probably because I'm saving all my energy to pick up when you Move into my airspace Move into my airspace (He's preparing for her)

Somethings coming over me I see you in the doorway I cannot control the part of me that swells up when you Move into my airspace Move into my airspace (When he sees her his heart swells...maybe his other organ, too. ;) But, this is really referring to all those intense feelings of attraction that swell up when we see someone we're in love with.)

But each night, I bury my love around you (People, if this part was about penetration he would have buried his love INSIDE her not AROUND her. He's dropping hints of his love for her, but he's still hiding it)

Oh each night, I bury my love around you You're linked to my innocence (Purity)

This is a concept This is a bracelet This isn't no intervention (I agree...this portion stinks, but here's what I think...Interpol reminds me of the police. He makes references in his songs like, "Please, police me." One of the meanings for the definition of braclet is "handcuffs". So it could mean, that this is an idea to restrain her from looking elsewhere. It's not to delay her or come in between whomever she may be interested. He wants her to quit looking and wait for him. There's no need for him to intervene because he knows he is the right one for her.)

This isn't you yet What you thought was such a conquest (When she realizes he wants her, she's gonna be more fulfilled with him and the guy she was aiming for won't seem like such a conquest anymore.)

Your hair is so pretty and red Baby, baby, you're really the best (Flattery)

Can I get to this way, I think so Can I get to this way, I think so Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? (He's trying to figure out how they can be together.)

We should take a trip now to see new places I'm sick of this town and I've seen my faces change (He's stressed out and restless, he wants to go explore the world with her.)

Say hello, say hello to the angels Say hello, say hello to the angels (He thinks she is an angel from Heaven and is saying to greet the other angels where she is at.)

this is the most sexual song I've ever read/heard, no question about subtlty, though it's nice that they wrapped it under at least one layer of inuendo. I love that climax though, right toward the end, "This isn't you yet, what you thought was such a conquest, etc." It's amazing how this song so efforltessly trivializes sex. "You lack the things to which I relate, but I see no harm," is such a perfectly phrased line, but it shows how far from art and beauty is sex. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. And no fair calling me a virgin loser who doesn't know what he's talking about, cuz I'm six feet tall at the waist and I get girls like all the time.

But seriuosly, does any one else think that Interpol are pro-absinance or something like that?

I think that this song is a morbidly sexual story hidden in a punky tone so people dont get too freaked out by it. I think that it starts out with, you guessed it, masturbation. "I had my back turned, you didn’t realize I’m lonely" It starts out with that and then leads to pedophilia. He seems to be telling the person he is with what love is, showing her youth and naivity. Also, she is linked to his "innocence", which could show his guilt of rape. BUT IT GETS BETTER! I believe that the ending has to do with murder. He seems frantic when he is trying to get there, possibly the burial point:Can I get to this way, I think so Can I get to this way, I think so Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? " Also, he says that he wants to run away in the lines directly after. Finally, and most obviously, he tells her to say hello to the angels, which shows her death (the murder idea), her innocence (the child rape idea), and lastly his guilt (masturbation and murder). Maybe I should stop watching Law and Order SVU.

As I reread the lyrics I see a lot that I missed, mostly more ennuendo and masturbation evidence.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
