.it leave never would you, you show could I If (6x)

She said that she still wants a friendship
She cant live her life without me as a friend
I cant figure out why I'd give a damn to what she wants
I dont understand the now before the then

Most of this garbage I write
That these people seem to like
Is about you
And how I let you infect my life
And if they got to know you
I doubt that they would see it
They'd wonder what i showed you
How you could leave it
A friend in Chicago said that I should stay persistant
If I stay around, im bound to break resistance
Fuck you lucy for defining my existance
Fuck you and your differences

Ever since I was a young lad
With a part time dad
It was hard to find happiness inside of what I had
I studied my mother
I digested her pain
And vowed no woman on my path would have to walk the same
Travel like sound across the fate ladder
I travel with spoon to mix this cake batter
And i travel with feels so i can deal with touch
Its like that
Thank you very much
Fuck you very much

Yes
Yes it is

And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Yes
Yes it is

And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Fuck the what happend
I got stuck
They can peel pieces of me off the grill of her truck
Used to walk with luck
Used to hold her hand
Fell behind and played the role of a slower man
I wanna stand on top of this mountain and yell
I wanna wake up and break up this lake of hell
I feel like a bitch for letting the sheet twist me up
The last star fighter is wounded time to give it up
On a pick it up mission
Kept it bitter
Getting in a million memories just to forget her
The difficulty in keeping emotions controlled
Cookies for the road
Took me by the soul
Hunger for the drama
Hunger for the nurture
Gonna take it further
The hurt feels like murder
Interperate
The eyes
Read the lines on her face
The sunshine is fake
How much time did i waste?
Fuck you lucy for leaving me
Fuck you lucy for not needin me
I wanna say fuck you
Because i still love you
No, im not ok
And I dont know what to do

Yes
Yes it is

And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Yes
Yes it is
And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Do I sound mad?
Well I guess im a little pissed
Every action has a point
Five points make a fist
You close em
You swing em
It hurst when it hits
And the truth can be a bitch
But if the boot fits
I got an idea
You should get a tatoo that says warning
Thats all, just a warning
So the potential victim
Can take a left and safe breath
And avoid you
Sober and upset in the morning
I wanna scream Fuck you Lucy
But the problem is i love you Lucy
So instead
Ima finish my drink, and have another
While you think about how you used to be my lover
(Fuck you)

Yes
Yes it is

And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Yes
Yes it is

And everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love
Everyone in his life would mistake it as love

Leave never would you, you show could I if.....

These are lyrics from the end of 20 answers from Felt, which is Slug and Murs.

Murs-[Alright, who-is-Lucy?] Slug-She’s the extra that gets to play the devil in my movies She’s around, uptown, sipping a beer smoothie

Lucy, from my interpretations does not have any one true defined meaning. I feel that by using Lucy, it allows all listeners a chance to use the music and apply it to their current situation. That is why Lucy is so big for him. It makes all kinds of people with all kinds of ideas of what, or who Lucy is feel as if they know what Slug is talking about. That feel of relating makes us attach even stronger to the music. Its funny how everyone wants to know what he was thinking about. I came on here to hear what this song made a few other people feel.

For me, this song represents my battle with alcohol. I got a tattoo that says warning, and I interpret Lucy as the negative influence inside myself. I look at the tattoo everyday in the mirror, and it helps me so that I stay away from that influence, and don't wake up sober after a night of alcohol/drugs and upset at myself.

I know this is probably an abstract interpretation, but thats the beauty of music. We take what we want from it. Thanks for reading!

cheeseburgers is right. slug has said himself that most songs he writes that people think are about girls are actually disguised allegories. this one is about the direction hip hop is going and where he fits in it. In the song doomage by non prophets that features slug, he goes as far to say "lucy is hip hop..."

it's true, Slug himself has also said that Lucy is not a real person, she isn't anybody, and when he uses Lucy in a song, he isn't even talking about a person she is just an allegory...

Listen to the song and read the lyrics. This is all about how his audience just can't get enough of Lucy, how he got stuck writing tons of songs about her because thats what people wanted, and he never intended Lucy to "define his existence", THIS IS about how she is completely misinterpreted.

this song is great i got no comment on what it means... but did anyone notice at exactly 1 minute there is a girl talking in the background. Can't tell what she's saying or nothing but it's kinda wack

so everybody who says 'lucy' is an allegory must be shitfaced, or stupid because how so when he says "fuck you lucy for leaving me, fuck you lucy for not needing me"

i dont think 'hip hop' can stop needing him.

From the mouth of Sean Daley himself:

Slug (real name Sean Daley) told Pollstar Lucy Ford was originally a play on the name Lucifer and represented the female devil.

"When I wrote Lucy and when I was writing about Lucy, I thought that Lucy represented the dichotomy between me and women and my own flaws as to why I couldn’t maintain a meaningful relationship, as well as the type of women I was attracted to,” Slug said.

“In retrospect, when I look back on it, 10 years later, I’m like ‘Man, by no means were any of those women in my life really so bad that they deserved to be demonized.’ Really, I think what I was demonizing was myself and my own codependency on alcohol, drama, marijuana, sex, validation, the whole validating game. … I really don’t think any of these people were bad people. I think that more so, I was caught inside of cycles I couldn’t break, going from one codependent relationship to another to the point where it just kind of swaddled me and it’s what I decided to rap about.”

I've always connected Lucy to relationships. It makes sense to me somewhat as it meaning hip hop. I do feel most songs he is talking about relationships. Obviously women have had a huge effect on Slug's life, it's understandable that there are many songs about them and more specifically, Jacob's mother. Maybe when he says Lucy is hip hop - he is referring to how he is Lucy - she defines his existence. He is hip hop? Just a thought. I do think that he probably uses it to reference hip hop in songs as well just like he does to drug addictions etc...

This song is absolutely amazing. I don't even like rap music, i hate the way it sounds, and yet the first thing i thought was "oh my god, this is so beautiful." The deepest pain is hating someone you love...being so jaded as to hate love its self. He hates how he can't make himself not be in love with her. She's consumed him entirely: "Fuck you Lucy for defining my existence" My favorite is the stanza that begins with "Gettin' in a million memories just to forget her" and ends with "No, I'm not okay, and I don't know what to do" That's exactly how it feels.....exactly. I would have been more well written but i'm flustered. David, if you read this, thank you for sending me this song. -Jenna

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
