Well I can't regret
Can't you just forget it?
I started something I couldn't finish
And if we go down, we go down together
Best friends means
Well best friends means

And I've got a twenty-dollar bill
That says you're up late night starting
Fist fights vs. Fences in your backyard
Wearing your black eye like a badge of honor
Soakin' in sympathy
From friends who never loved you
Nearly half as much as me

Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's just what anyone would do"
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's something unforgivable"

Well I can't regret
Can't you just forget it?
I started something I couldn't finish
If we go down, we go down together
Best friends means
Well best friends means

You never knew
Well I never told you
Everything I know about breaking hearts
I learned from you, it's true
I've never done it with the style and grace you have
But I've made long term plans
Based on these mistakes

Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's just what anyone would do"
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's something unforgivable"

Is this what you call tact?
I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
So let's end this call
And end this conversation
There's nothing worse...
(That's right he said, that's right he said it)
That you always had it way too easy

Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's just what anyone would do"
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
"It's something unforgivable"

Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve

Best friend means I pulled the trigger!
Best friend means you get what you deserve!

like it's been said a billion times, brand new wrote seventy times 7 to express how jesse felt cause of it, then tbs came back with this to tell johns side of the story. okay? okay.

The "you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back" thing came from Jesse, but he probably got that from the Morrissey Song "I Am Hated For Loving" which has the lyrics 'anonymous call, a poison pen/a brick in the small of the back again.' And then this TBS song has the lyrics 'I started something i couldn't finsih' which is from a Smiths song. Just some interesting Morrissey trivia there ;)

This song is joined to a brand new song. Tbs singer slept with bn singers girlfriend in highschool. They were best friends. That is what this song is about. You need to hear seventy times 7 by brand new too really appreciat this song. Lots of people are saying.. oh this song is about being hurt.. no its about hurting someone else.

Yeah, yeah. Before you yell at me to read all the previous messages, I have. But no one's really delved too deep into the story, and plenty of people have gotten it wrong.

It all begins on Long Island, back when Jesse Lacey was actually a member of the original TBS lineup, when they had a lead singer by the name of Antonio. In fact, if you find some of their old demos (most noticeable in "Go On"), you can hear Jesse doing the background singing/screaming.

However, things fell apart when Jesse's girlfriend cheated on him with John. Jesse left, formed Brand New wrote "Seventy Times Seven" (the title is meant to be ironic, because the song isn't about forgiveness at all). Meanwhile, TBS found Adam Lazzarra to replace Jesse on bass, but he was soon bumped up to lead vocals when Antonio left.

John, with Adam, wrote "There's No I in Team" in response to Jesse's "Seventy Times Seven." If you're saying otherwise, better look at the lyrics: lines throughout TBS's diss are lined with lyrics from songs all over Brand New's first album. Most noticeably is the mocking line, "Is that what you call tact? I swear you're subtle as a brick in the small of my back." (proof that this is the response song: John sings "That's right, he said it" after aforementiond line).

Also taken from Seventy Times Seven: John counter's Jesse's line "Back in school they never taught us what we needed to know, like how to deal with despair or someone breaking your heart" with "Everything I know about breaking hearts I learned from you." And of course, John tells Jesse what "Best friends means."

In addition to that, lyrics are taken from all over Brand New's album. Including "I've got a twenty dollar bill that you're up late night starting fist fights vs. the fences" ("I've got a twenty dollar bill no one's ever seen you without makeup." from BN's "Mix Tape") and "Broken Down in bars and bathrooms" ("Broken down from the bikes and bars" in BN's Soco Amaretto Lime"). Also, in BN's Sudden Death in Carolina, Jesse sings about "waking up with a shiner" (a black eye), and John sings about him "wearing his black eye like a badge of honor."

I'm sure there are more hidden references as well. Major kudos to the person who found the "Of Mice and Men" allusion.

But anyways, after TBS put their first album out, Jesse and John made up and everything was cool and they went on tour and did the song together. Or so the story goes. As one previous commenter mentioned, TBS guitarist Eddie Reyes said that the story's "bullshit," but it's kinda hard to believe there's nothing at all that connects the two songs so deeply.

And then, John left TBS (rumors say due to Adam's rocky relationship with his sister, Michelle Nolan) and bass player Shaun Cooper left with him. Jesse sided with John when the split happened. And if you listen to TBS's Where You Want To Be, some of the songs are very obviously stabs at Stralight Run and Jesse. Pretty cool stuff.

I never knew this song exsited, then I looked at what I had downloaded and there it was. This is so perfectly written. You can totally hear the pure emtion is his voice. I wish I would have watched this part of the concert instead of going outside where it was cool. I missed out. I saw brand new and rufio though. I still should have stayed inside. I can't believe this song. It makes you feel like you are him going through exactly what he is, and you hurt like him. You are full of the same feeling he is and you just want to break down. I am gonna listen to this over and over and over tonight. I will try not to kill myself....not that I was going to anyway it just makes me hurt so bad....

You have not seen the nastiest punk set unless you were at the Knitting Factory last night! TBS and Brand New completely brought down the house when they sang "There's No 'I' In Team" together. By far the craziest show I have ever seen.

This is one of the best and well writen songs I have ever read. I am always impressed when the lyrics are coming from the heart of the person righting them and I don't see how this could be the except here. YOu can hear it in the screams and crys. This is a beautiful song and it means a lot to me. It seems to me that he is talking about how he broke up with this girls who he cares so much about. He felt that he had to do it. It seemed like the right thing at the right time but it wasn't. He had to make a decision and it was a tough one. He hurt her but he says that she gets what she deserves, but I don't thintk that that is what he wants. he doesn't want her to get what she shoud get because she is everything to him. That is my perspective but I am also highly influenced by my situations in my own life that come through when I write and interpret lyrics.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
