Baby, I don't understand
Why we can't just hold on
To each other's hands
This time might be the last
I fear, unless I make it all too clear
I need you so, oh

Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again
Learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up
And let us in
Take these broken wings

Baby, I think tonight
We can take what was wrong
And make it right
Baby, it's all I know
That you're half of the flesh
And blood makes me whole
I need you so

So take these broken wings
And learn to fly again
Learn to live so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up
And let us in

Take these broken wings
You've got to learn to fly, learn to live, love so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in yeah, yeah

Let us in
Let us in

Baby, it's all I know
That you're half of the flesh
And blood that makes me whole
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah

So take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in

Take these broken wings
You got to learn to fly, learn to live and love so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up for us and let us in
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Ooh

This is a great song of a broken relationship. He realizes to late that its falling apart and he knows it over unless he steps up and tells her how much he truly loves her and cant do anything without her. One of the best songs from the 80's

This song is one of my favorites. You just can listen to it over and over again and you never get bored. I think the song is about a failed relationship and now he is tryin to convince her to take him back and to make a new start. I don't now whether the girl gives him a second chance but I actually would if somebody sang this song to me. I also like the video pretty much, sometimes even more than the song. 80s rock!!!

Awesome, powerful song about a failing relationship, and the desire of one partner to try and save it by professing how strongly he feels about her, and hoping they can commit to fix the mistakes made that night. Not sure if he is admitting to having broken her wings, and now encourages her, that he will give her the freedom to fly and live her life instead of being stifled. I just love this song.

Part of the songs' chorus is a reference to The Beatles song 'Blackbird'. The line is "Take these broken wings and learn to fly" which can be heard in both songs.

i read somewhere once this song was about the singer's battle with cocaine addiction, eitherway it is clear the singer is going through some sort of inner turmoil and is in a very bad place 'broken wings' but realises that through this woman[or even man] in his life things can get better and there is hope 'learn to fly again' with the help of his lover.

    Song Meaning

Richard Page of Mr. Mister didn’t think Broken Wings would ever be a hit. They thought the song was too long. And it was too personal. You see, Broken Wings is about the band’s recovery from cocaine addiction as they learned to “fly again.” Many musicians at the time considered cocaine to be a harmless creative muse. Even Sigmund Freud used it. But cocaine derailed Richard Page and the rest of the band for several years. During their time of recovery, Page had a bass line he was working on. Page’s cousin and collaborator, John Lang, was reading the book Broken Wings by Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet. John was fused was inspired by the tune and brought in ideas from the book. And the song took flight.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
