The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Ok... but no... in all seriousness... this song may be one of the best love songs ever written. it's so simple... but so beautiful. just downloaded this song and i love it. I had "On My Way" a while ago but i never found anything else by stephen speaks and when i recently saw that the lyrics were posted here i decided to try again. This was the only other song i could find though. Does anyone know anything about this band. From the two songs i've heard so far they are amazing.

Stephen Speaks is a band from Tulsa, OK. They are a christian act, and they dont seem to play too many shows because two of their members go to Abilene Christian University, one is a Medical School student at OU and another is a pastor in his thirties, so I think that they might have some scheduling conflicts with touring. they have a website...I cant post it here, but seach somewhere for Stephen Speaks...it SHOULD be the first entry.
As far as this song goes, its not necessarily the lyrics or the music itself, but its the fact that this song captures the heart of love. It captures the earnestness of the feeling and the way falling in love and being in love is. It is a portrait of a Christ-based romance that is not self seeking, but fulfilling and that will lead to forever.
So last night at Starbucks I saw "Ripper" (one of the singers) play. I jumped up to buy this wonderul CD and have to say that this is my favorite so far. I should be so lucky to be one of the 6 people (not related to him) see the show last night :-P
