Well, it was nearly summer we sat on your roof
Yeah, we smoked cigarettes and we stared at the moon
And I'd show you stars you never could see
Baby, it couldn't have been that easy to forget about me

Baby, time meant nothing, anything seemed real
Yeah, you could kiss like fire and you made me feel
Like every word you said was meant to be
No, it couldn't have been that easy to forget about me

Baby, even the losers get lucky sometimes
Even the losers keep a little bit of pride
They get lucky sometimes

Two cars parked on the overpass
Rocks hit the water like broken glass
I should have known right then it was too good to last
God, it's such a drag when you're livin' in the past

Baby, even the losers get lucky sometimes
Even the losers keep a little bit of pride
They get lucky sometimes

Baby, even the losers get lucky sometimes
Even the losers keep a little bit of pride
Yeah, they get lucky sometimes

Baby, even the losers get lucky sometimes
Even the losers get lucky sometimes

Even the losers get lucky sometimes

I like this line "Two cars park on the overpass, rocks hit the water like broken glass. "

I dated a guy once that I thought was way too good for me. We had known each other forever and I just kept thinking "This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I'm so lucky but I know this won't last." We dated for around six months, I was a freshman in high school. I still miss him (two years later) even though I broke up with him. I hope he hasn't forgotten. It couldn't be that easy to forget about me...

I think "losers" refers to losers in love ... even the heartbroken ones keep a little bit of pride, they get lucky sometimes. Not quite losers as in "LOSER". That's how I see it.

I'm more in line with Jessy. It's about having that one date with the really hot chick he never thought he'd have a chance with, getting lucky (as it were), and then it was over. And how later in life, especially in down times, that one night keeps coming back to him.

I love when you hear the girl at the begging "It's just the normal noises in here" I have a feeling it might be either Pettys or one of the heartbreakers wife and she listens to them rock out all the time, and she sounds like a good southern girl

"It was nearly summer, we sat on your roof, Yeah, we smoked cigarettes and we stared at the moon" Great writing. Just a few words but we can see ourselves there. "Two cars park on the overpass, rocks hit the water like broken glass." Minimal words but in our mind we see an entire scene. That's the height of poetry.

great song. sorta depressing though - he's saying that he was lucky as hell to ever have a girl that good but it's over, she moved on, and all he has is memories of when he wasn't such a loser.

i just got a DVD of tom petty live at the Fillmore...he messes up the lyrics at the beginning of the song...

It was nearly summer, we stared at the moon Sat on your roof, and......... We stared at the moon

It was pretty funny. i've never seen anyone get such an ovation for singing the wrong lyrics

This song in my opinion is about keeping faith in yourself, even when things go wrong (example: in this song it sounds like he broke up with a really great girl that he thought was too good for him).

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
