Definately check out Thee Heavenly Music Association.

Sonic Youth isn't really shoegaze, but I always think of them when I hear Dinosaur Jr. Though that's probably because of Eliminator Jr.

Be sure to check out Titus Andronicus. Airing of Grievances was released last year and is probably my favorite album of '08. It's being reissued by XL (of vampire weekend fame) sometime soon, so hurry up and get on that so you can say you were listening to them before they got popular.

Hmm some Asobi Seksu, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, and Sareena-Maneesh.

And the classics, but you probably have them already.

I'm new to shoegazer, but I'm currently in love with Spiritualized.

Jesus and Mary Chain, Lush, Fleeting Joys, Catherine Wheel, Rollerskate Skinny, 7% Solution, and then the classics

Newer stuff: A Place To Bury Strangers, Amusement Parks on Fire, Adorable,

OH and how can I forget Kitchens of Distinction! Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have shoegaze elements present

If you can find anything by them, there was a very good Australian shoegazer band called Swirl.

Good news! You can still order their stuff from Nic Dalton's (ex-Lemonheads) record label Half A Cow:

Some currently active shoegaze-ish bands:

Ringo Deathstarr (very JAMC and MBV inspired, I'd say)

The Besnard Lakes (they like long songs)

Working for a Nuclear Free City

She, Sir

HEARTSREVOLUTION (sorta like a more lo-fi version of M83)

Atlas Sound (it's the singer from Deerhunter's solo project)

Also, the band Japancakes did a song-for-song cover of "Loveless", except without all the shoegaze guitar noise, replacing in with cellos and pedal steel guitar and stuff. It's really good.

Silversun Pickups

Aren't they alternative rock? I didn't hear any shoegaze in their sound.

I don't know, I'm not all that great at classifying genres... but I have constantly heard them classified as shoegaze. They do have some fuzz going on...

Editors is like "indie" pop rock.

And fuzz can mean a lot of things. In Silversun Pickups' case, I'd say they just borrowed a certain aesthetic. They remind me more of The Smashing Pumpkins than thay do say, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins etc..

I'm not really that familiar with the genre, but I like Gregor Samsa a bit.  I think they are pigeonholed as shoegaze.

Though not really shoegaze, it may be in your best interest to get into m83 & Ulrich Schnauss. Think shoegaze done electronically. And I second Asobe Seksu when it comes to newer bands.

I'm going to be writing for a blog I visit daily and the first thing I'm going to post is an album from a shoegaze band with a more raw sound, so check it out if you want :)

Scratch that. I'm not going to be able to write for the blog. If you want their albums (they're from a band called Bleach and they released one album a handful of EP's, all of which are out of print which I have) drop me a PM and I'll link you. If I had to sum up their sound, I'd say shoegaze with a more raw sound. They also wrote a shoegaze song (I'm sure it's the only one, too) with rapped vocals. Act fast though because I won't be hanging around online for long.

I immensely enjoy Gregor Samsa as well, particularly 55:12, but for something closer to shoegaze, Rest is definitely the more mellow album--I'd even think of it as post-slowcore (confuses me too).

Anyway, anyone who is into the synth-driven stuff like M83 should check out Jatun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI6xJpbwWcI

I recommend Asobi Seksu, someone mentioned them. Of special note, at least to me, is the second half of "It's Too Late" on their first album. The Twilight Sad isn't really shoegaze, but there is PLENTY of noise and fuzz on some songs like "Talking With Fireworks". You might also want to look up Maps.

It is but it's not a very "large" genre. Plus it was mostly an early-mid 90s thing.
