'Wanna' or 'Want to'?

Couldn't find if this had already been asked.

Is there any general consensus or opinion on which to use when submitting lyrics? Or is this not an issue at all?

I personally only type down 'want to' when it's very clear the singer says those two words.

But I don't know. What's everyone else think?

Interpretation of lyrics comes only after they are posted word-for-word. I just wish everyone would actually listen to a song before posting the lyrics. One of Big Mama's songs, for example, was slaughtered on this site (almost unrecognizable)...and then people do/will interpret the wrong lyrics. Sad, sad, sad. Thanks again, Mike, for helping me (but not for inferring I am your parents:)

Bump...

Well I guess this isn't as much of a concern as I previously thought.

When ever it sounds like they're using just 'wanna', I'll put down that. When it sounds like the opposite, then I'll do that.

But there was one issue in which I thought this would matter. That being internet search engines. But I think most of them ignore words like that. So in the end it doesn't matter..

What? Shouldn't it ALWAYS matter. Artists write their songs one particular way. Out of respect for their craft shouldn't we credit them with the correct words...

Hi Chillin,

I not only write a lot of the music for our band, but I also write 90% of the lyrics, and I can tell you that it doesn't matter if "wanna" or "want to" is used. When writing lyrics, the main focus is to get the message across to the listener; that is, to touch his or her emotions. One of the things a lyricist has to consider is if the lyrics fit the cadence of the music, and proper grammar usage is probably the greatest enemy of song lyrics. Can you imagine Mick Jagger singing, "I can't any satisfaction" in stead of "Can't get no, satisfaction"? I've searched for songs on YouTube and other sites, and all I had to do was be close to the lyrics and they all found the song. Not to worry. It's not an issue at all.
