Sonic Youth isn't really shoegaze, but I always think of them when I hear Dinosaur Jr. Though that's probably because of Eliminator Jr.

Be sure to check out Titus Andronicus. Airing of Grievances was released last year and is probably my favorite album of '08. It's being reissued by XL (of vampire weekend fame) sometime soon, so hurry up and get on that so you can say you were listening to them before they got popular.

I'm new to shoegazer, but I'm currently in love with Spiritualized.

OH and how can I forget Kitchens of Distinction! Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have shoegaze elements present

If you can find anything by them, there was a very good Australian shoegazer band called Swirl.

Good news! You can still order their stuff from Nic Dalton's (ex-Lemonheads) record label Half A Cow:

Some currently active shoegaze-ish bands:

Ringo Deathstarr (very JAMC and MBV inspired, I'd say)

The Besnard Lakes (they like long songs)

Working for a Nuclear Free City

She, Sir

HEARTSREVOLUTION (sorta like a more lo-fi version of M83)

Atlas Sound (it's the singer from Deerhunter's solo project)

Also, the band Japancakes did a song-for-song cover of "Loveless", except without all the shoegaze guitar noise, replacing in with cellos and pedal steel guitar and stuff. It's really good.

Aren't they alternative rock? I didn't hear any shoegaze in their sound.

I don't know, I'm not all that great at classifying genres... but I have constantly heard them classified as shoegaze. They do have some fuzz going on...

Editors is like "indie" pop rock.

And fuzz can mean a lot of things. In Silversun Pickups' case, I'd say they just borrowed a certain aesthetic. They remind me more of The Smashing Pumpkins than thay do say, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins etc..

I'm not really that familiar with the genre, but I like Gregor Samsa a bit.  I think they are pigeonholed as shoegaze.
