you mad bro?
cause people don't want to spend the time too learn how to play an instument and go through all the work in making a multi person band, so the just go solo and they can fire or kick people out with out any one really knowing
If you want technically proficient musicians, just listen to some metal.
d2d, do you seriously think Kanye is good?

d2d, do you seriously think Kanye is god?
Don't doubt my faith, heathen.
The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom, young buggie.

I just think Kanye is wack as fuck compared to youtube.com/…">this guy (a good modern rapper). El-P's lyrics are a zillion times less trite/more insightful and he has at least 3874837x more talent. Kanye's braggadocio/punchline game doesn't impress me either. He also sucks as a producer. Sucks as an MC. Should kill himself IMO.
Fuck, I'd take youtube.com/…">mc chris over him.
What do you like about Kanye?

I've heard good things about "I'll Sleep When You're Dead." Funcrusher Plus is a great album so I've been meaning to check out some El-P.
Less trite/more insightful. Don't care.
Sucks as a producer. Denial is a powerful illusion.
What I like? His production. Especially the heavier synth stuff like Graduation & MBDTF
I'm not sure why I quoted you. So I could see what I was replying to? Sorry, azkm.
Oh man, i'm just happy to see people i can insult without feeling like a retard-basher.
You fanny.

Denial is a powerful illusion, but I can't really "deny" anything here per se — one's taste in music is subjective and I care more about lyricism in rap than I do production. If a song has a shitty beat, I can just find a remix, but there's no fixing poor mic skills. I'm also not a fan of most of the modern production I've heard, but that may not include what Kenya's done. The only thing I'm denying here is liking his music, which I'm fairly sure is true, but just to be fair: what are some of your favorite Kenny Wesney beats?

What's that even supposed to mean?

I mean, he was just implying that I've heard Kayne's shit before and liked it, but deny it because I want to retain my status as some hip-hop purist/I don't want to like mainstream stuff/etc. He's right in what he's saying, but wrong about it applying to me.
LET'S JUST HEAR DA BEATZ

Ha, I guess I was implying all that. But honestly I just liked the sound of it and it seemed like an appropriate retort to a stupid comment. Hell, life is subjective, yet we still find ways of communicating our experiences to varying degrees of accuracy. I think it is possible to objectively analyse and contextualise music and that it is useful to do so. I also think it is important to listen to music which is critically acclaimed and see what you can take from it, even if you don't like it. Its a learning experience. Part of what makes Kanye West so great is that he has the freedom (i.e. money) to work with whoever and sample whatever. Ha, I'm such a Kanye fanboy. I don't know. He is just producing the best pop music at the moment and his production is just mind-blowing, all these incredible intricate arrangements which is rare in hip-hop.
I think I can speak on behalf of every sane person in the world that I hope rock doesn't die. no, I don't think that rock IS dead, but surely enough, genres come and go. with all these new songs that I see on the Top 40 these days I feel like spewing. Apprantly all you need to make a hit song nowadays is say stuff about partying and turning on lights.

Yeah, ever since the nineties.
And i mean the eighteen-nineties.

That's why I like rock. most songs have good quality lyrics, telling a story, unless we look at heavy metal, then it's all about razors, night time, the dead rising and every problem you could ever think of.

I mean, have you seen some of the shit that gets in these days? Yeah, we got that you liked candy the last 500 times you said it.

Not necessarily. There are a bunch of metal bands with positive and uplifting lyrics.

Rock lyrics tend to be pretty bad, and even when they're good, they're far from being the lyrical pinnacle of music. But it all comes down to what you define as rock music and definitional debate is pointless. By the way, what the fuck are you talking about at the end there? Razors, night time... every problem I can think of? lolwut
and @d2d: Yeah, that's fair enough. I don't dislike him, but I really haven't heard anything that has impressed me. Then again, I've never really made a genuine attempt to listen to him because I've never been interested/never given a shit about him.

no kidding:
To see the last survivor fall
To see their bastards sons against the wall
To see the emptiness as we decay
I see the world is dead, I am betrayed
Dead heart in a dead world
Dead heart in a dead world
This rotten hole that I call home bled dry again
This lesion marked upon my soul
Left an empty hanging man

Ahaha, I have to agree with you there. That's why I don't enjoy heavy metal as much. Seriously, metal lyricists...get over it.

On the Road
You two should totally like make out or something.
Pantera's lyrics are self-help books for psychopaths. Not exactly uplifting but motivational nonetheless. Like fuck yeah. DESTROY.
The difference between heavy metal and rock in terms of lyrical content in my uninformed opinion is that rock's central motif is sex and heavy metal's is something else, I don't know, death? Not that death isn't central to rock too. But when heavy metal lyricists do cover sex its always something perverted like Lord Abortion or Charlotte the Harlot.

If you look backwards to the influences of rock though, the blues is some (awesome) dark stuff.
