Verse 1:
Am
you ran to the woods you wouldnt listen to me
C7
I called out your name you were blind as could be
G
Down from the hill and up through the briars
D
A fish to the lure on the hook of some liars
Verse 2:
Am
they told you there was money to be found
C7
(and) greed sprang up like a scent to a hound
G
there was lust in your heart and fire in your eyes
D
but shouldnt you know that the devil means lies
Chorus:
Am            C7                  G
Run young man, run fast as you can
                          D
your daddy told you never to trust that man
Am                     C7
wisdom was far from the apple of your eye
G                                  D
and you shook that hand just to waste your life

Verse3:
Am
One small favor that was all that they asked
C7
no need for a name or a story of your past
G
one old man dead in the woods bleedin red
D
they asked for nothing more than a shot to his head

verse4:
Am
You walked up the steps of the old man's cabin
C7
where the start and the end of your life had happened
G
tears running down from my old tired eyes
D
unknown to you that knock was no surprise

Chorus:
Run away young man! I screamed as you came
I told you never to come back again
but you kicked the door and as it fell to the floor
i could see your eyes had changed from before!

verse5:
Am
you raised your gun, said dont say a word
C7
with a tear in my eye i said son this hurts
G
i gave you life dont try and take mine
D
and i shot him to the ground and watched him die
Verse6:
Am
son i loved you more than you ever knew
C7
with all that i had i tried to raise you true
G
you threw in your lot with evil men
D
and i warned you to never take their sin

verse7:
Am               C7                  G
Oh I'm sorry son! Whats done is done
                          D
I taught you better which path to run    (Chorus tune, verse strumming)
Am                     C7
I pray for you that God has grace
G                                  D
and that others choose a better race...

(Chorus1)

I really dig these lyrics. It's a beautiful song, really. It sounds something like the seven deadly sins, except maybe gluttony and envy. Ultimately though, you should name the song something that feels right to you. In fact, a lot of songs are just too amazing to have a name. Maybe this is one of them?

Hey, i dig these lyrics too! I don't know what kind of music you have in mind, but it seems to me it would go good with some good strong acoustic guitar =) I like how you develop the story and how it's from the perspective of an old man. Good stuff! As for the title, I can see how this would be hard to give a name to...maybe you shouldn't take a phrase from the song, but instead give it a name that corresponds to the idea behind the song. Something like that =D
