As far as urban music goes I don't really give excessive attention to most Rap or R&B - mostly hip hop if anything.  But I still like Cypress Hill and Bone Thugs n Harmony.

I've been meaning to get my hands on some Wu Tang Clan too but I've got a long list of music to get and I don't really know where to start.  Any specific album recs of theirs?

Yep. Still.

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and Wu Tang Forever in that order.

I've been meaning to get deeper into hip hop but haven't found much besides music that experiments with hip hop. Anyone have some suggestions?

I've got some stuff for this thread. In fact, I think I posted this in the metal thread but I don't think anyone read it. It's a project by the name of Count Bass D, check it out.

Was gonna mention Sage, but I think he's more hip hop than rap.  He's awesome though, I've been listening to him a lot for the past 6 months or so.  And it's reassuring to know that some music actually gets better as it gets newer.  HTDD is his best yet in my opinion.

And yeah, as far as the Wu Tang Clan members I know RZA is probably the most talented.  ODB was cool though and I don't just say that cause he's dead.  Thanks for the recs, Lat & Animus.

And Lenny, Q-TIP IS THE SHIT.

edit: Don't mean to keep asking for moar, but I've heard good things about JMT as well.  Where to start?

the jmt albums that need to be listened to are violent by design and the psycho-social.

here are two joints that should brighten your day:

I like:cLOUDDEAD, 13 & God, Black Sheep, The Mad Conductor, and Jedi Mind Tricks a lot.  Rap is a real polarized genre for me.  What I like I really enjoy, but there doesn't tend to be much of a grey area that I just "find to be okay".  It's pretty like/dislike.  I'm a fan of most typical backpacker rap, I suppose.  Anticon and whatnot.

Saigon, 7 Notas 7 Colores, Ari (Arianna Puello, if you want to find her easily), Violadores del Verso, Calle 13 (although they're sadly usually labeled a reggaeton act), and many more...

Actually, since I formatted my computer, I've only got a little Saigon and some Calle 13. I was looking for suggestions on some cool underground gangsta rap, but none of the wannabe shit on TV these days...

Why? is also good and has anyone heard of a project called El Stew? It's an instrumental hip hop group with Buckethead in it.

I don't listen to much mainstream rap much anymore, my fav artists would probably be:

Tonedeff

Talib Kweli

Saigon

Blu

CunninLynguists

Slaughterhouse

I definitely recommend Tonedeff's Archetype. One of the most enjoyable albums I've ever listened to, I have it on repeat all the time. Also Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens, another modern day classic.
