Here's a couple of bands that are relatively unheard of:
The Secret Life of Sofia
Decent Criminal
Ronald and Carson!
I can't really compare their music to anyone but they're still really good.
They're pretty much only local to Phoenix but check them out nonetheless.

are the best of the best. looking forward to their LP in September. if you saw their shows, you'd become their fan straightaway i'm sure))
I actually just submitted lyrics for an unsigned band from around here that's really gooood, they've played shows with A Day To Remember, I Set My Friends On Fire, and Mychildren Mybrid
Mayday! Cried The Captain
They did the best cover i've heard of Just Dance
There is this one band called The Perfect Autumn. He has a youtube account if you want to search for him
The band Mad Orchid is kickass. I was going to submit lyrics for them but they don't show up when I search for them (and when I try to submit them as a band, it says they've already been approved?). Oh well, maybe someone else will have more luck or know what's going on.

I'm a huge fan of Mike Goodrick. He's unsigned and his sound is kind of eclectic--sort of pop, sort of acoustic rock, sort of techno. It's hard to describe. I actually came here to see if his lyrics were listed and when I saw that they weren't, I decided to transcribe them, only to realize that HE wasn't listed as an artist. I submitted him for approval, though.
A major upside to Mike Goodrick is that he really interacts with fans. Most of his shows are at Hot Topic in malls in suburban areas and he replies to messages and comments on his MySpace page. Plus, he's a good PERSON. He doesn't wear shoes because other people in less fortunate countries need them more. Obviously, his ONE PAIR doesn't do much, but seriously... if someone's barefoot, you're gonna notice. In any case, he's a FANTASTIC artist and a wonderful person. I think that makes him worth the listen.
His MySpace URL is myspace.com/mikegoodrick. He's definitely worth the listen.

Two local bands native to Asheville, NC. The Clerk (poptronic) and Till Dawn (general rock). Both amaze me with the fact they are unsigned. "Back to Outerspace" by The Clerk is an incredible piece of music.
i will never be the same is a great unsigned band
they are techno rock
check out their myspace: myspace.com/…

ITs more acoustic music but tr The Perfect Autumn and Ronnie Day
These Matches Won't Light In The Damp - absolutely beautiful, some of the most depressing music I've ever heard. It's just one guy and a guitar, but every time I listen to one of his songs, it seems like there's sound coming from every direction at once.
Frankenfetus. they are based in Texas, and they are amazing. the name freaks me out a bit. they describe themselves as "fock" funk and rock. each song kind of has its own sound, but they are all great.
my current favorite from them is "the bubbling sun" you can listen at the first link.

Bonehead. A grunge band made up of two twelve year olds. They're horrible, but in a totally good way. I don't really know why I like them, but I think they're the best thing since sliced bread.

"Here comes him picking her up like a viking on a rapequest."
Sliced bread is totally overrated.

that deal where you get five rolls for a quid is totally underrated

Agreed, but what about snooty "baguettes"?

Wendy O Williams attempted suicide by hammering a knife into her chest - That's Punk Rock!
Broke City is a great band out of Utah... kinda like The Cure/Foo Fighters/Jellyfish type stuff. Rock and "Power-Pop with Issues" :)
Also, The Sound Archives from Hollywood...pretty badass. Kind of like a more upbeat Glassjaw.
