My anti-virus expired recently, so I need a new one, but what's a good one?
The one that just expired was AVG, and it was alright.
Well, all anti virus programs suck in one way or another. I would strongly advise against using the more popular antivirus progs like Mcafee (resource hog) and Norton (mainly because its installer is faulty and it lets some viruses slip). I actually haven't had much use for an anti virus in a while so I don't remember much but what I do remember is that BitDefender, Trend Micro and Kaspersky had pretty some pretty decent anti virus programs.
Yeah, my sister's got BitDefender in her laptop and it looks good.
I fucking hate Mcafee, it came with the computer when it was new like 3 years ago and I still can't fully uninstall it and get weekly emails about their discounts. Cunts.
And yeah, Norton was never a good experience for me either.
I use AVG Free. That one doesn't expire. It's a little invasive, but their are ways to keep it from updating automatically. It must be the best free antivirus software out there.

It's got 512MB RAM, some 128MB ATI video card, 3.8GHz double-thread processor, and a 145GB HDD. And it runs like a fuckin' Pentium 2.

that's a decent computer... that is if you add about a gig or two of RAM. seriously.

It's a good computer to us broke folks who don't have much use for some mega-nerd package.
I've got AVG free. Works all right though it seems to let some adware through. I've also got Spybot Search and Destroy (also free).
Computer came with Norton (a few years ago), but Norton itself got infected and stopped working and loads of crap came through. (Fucking Norton.)

Hello everyone, I am using Cyberdefender. In addition I got 3 yrs unlimited tech support for anything computer related for 4 computers (I can call about anything that doesn't work,security,browser trouble,registry work) $470.00 they have cheaper plans.

Yeah, it ain't too bad, but it stopped running smooth about a year ago.
I'd add some RAM, but it costs a shitload down here. At least some $1,500 to make it 2GBs. That used to be about $140 USD, but now it's more like $80-90 USD, and then people start bitching about how the dollar went up and so will their prices, even though most of them don't buy their supplies from across the border... at least obviously not in the black fucking market.
Anyway, I still haven't decided what anti-virus to get. I've realized my computer takes about 8 minutes less to start up now that I don't have AVG anymore.
Damn, 8 minutes is a light year in computer terms.
I would go for AVG free anyway. I could scratch together some info regarding setting it up for minimum intrusion due to automatic updates and all that. You just gotta be disciplined enough to update and run it manually every week or so. I've had it for ages and my pc starts up in a coupla seconds.

Spybot S&D is probably my favorite program for adware. I recommend that to EVERYONE!

Windows XP. The non-Pro edition, I think, because it lacked MP3 encoding for use in ripping albums with Windows Media Player, which my previous computer with XP Pro had by default.
Actually, who the fuck likes Norton? It's invasive, shitty, ridiculously expensive, and the name reminds me of a pompous english doctor for some reason.
